The Doctoral Studies Program at Mainz University

Support, advice and training of young researchers

The program “Doctoral Studies at Mainz University” aims to restructure the various efforts made by Mainz University to support young researchers during their training. Furthermore, the university offers doctoral students a wide variety of training programs.
The Doctoral Studies Program at Mainz University incorporates four different approaches regarding the support and training of doctoral students:
  • The “Gutenberg Academy for Young Academics” as a network/community of especially outstanding doctoral candidates

  • The already existing post-graduate programs of excellence (Graduate Schools of Excellence, Research Training Groups of the DFG (Graduiertenkollegs), International Max Planck Research Schools etc.)

  • A university-wide general post-graduate program teaching participants so-called key qualifications such as presentation skills, information, knowledge and time management. Moreover, the course promotes the networking of doctoral candidates of Mainz University

  • The newly founded specialized post-graduate programs with the aim to widen the specialized abilities of doctoral candidates by contemplating recent developments in their own respective disciplines and by considering the perspective of related disciplines
